It is with great sadness that we, the family of Aggie MacLennan announce her passing on April 30, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Washabuck, Victoria County, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Ellen Ann (MacLean) MacLean.
She was a member of St. Barra parish, Christmas Island.
A true Cape Bretoner, her home was always open for guests, welcoming them with her tea biscuits, ginger cookies and a good cup of tea. Aggie had a talent for knitting and a generous heart for gift giving of her numerous knitted slippers and especially remembered for her kilt socks.
Aggie was a great traditional step-dancer, her talent she passed on to her daughters. She performed at the Highland Village for 40 years, many concerts throughout her life from Arizona to Scotland. Aggie was a very active member of the Cape Breton Gaelic Society where she always step-danced.
She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 124, Iona. She had recently been awarded, from the Highland Village, Iona, an award of merit for 2009.
Aggie is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Neil Francis; daughters, Rodena (Hector) MacDonald, Sydney River, Leona (David) Fraser, Ontario, and Jeanette (Donnie) Gordon, Dartmouth; sons, Bernie, China, John and Cecil, Benacadie. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Ken and Kyle MacNeil, Rodney and Janet Lynn Fraser, Neil, Alison and Ainsley Gordon, and five great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Phillips, Emerson, Finley and Mila MacNeil and Rachel Fraser; sisters, Mary Dorthy, Baddeck, and Faye MacNeil, Vancouver.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Melvin MacNeil, sisters, Betty and Florence, brothers, Mickey, Joe and Johnnie.
Visitation will take place Saturday, May 2, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, and Sunday, May 3, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at St. Barra Church, Christmas Island. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at St. Barra Church, with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating.
Burial in St. Barra Church Cemetery, Christmas Island.
