It is with great sadness that the family announce the sudden passing of Alan Fatkin at his home in Barrie, Ontario on Friday October 3, 2008 at the age of 61. Alan, loving and devoted husband of Maureen for more than 37 years, and dedicated father and friend of sons Charlton (Jinha) and Ian (Vanessa), moved to Corner Brook, Newfoundland from Wallsend, England in 1971, and had only recently retired from the Canadian Coast Guard and moved to Barrie to be near his sons. Predeceased by his father, George Charlton Fatkin in 1969, and his mother, Mary Jane (Knox) Fatkin in 1982. Survived by his brother Michael (Marguerite) and niece Michelle of Wallsend, England, his twin sister Alice (Tony) in Calpe, Spain, and sister Maria and nephews Michael and Christopher, in Wallsend, England. Cremation, as per Alan's wishes, has taken place. A memorial service is being held at St. John Vianney Church in Barrie, on Thursday October 9, 2008 and another service will be held at a later date in Corner Brook, NL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Alan.
