Garfield John Gordon

Garfield John Gordon was born on Chapel Hill, Deer Lake, on February 23rd 1942. He was the 3rd son of Alex & Mary (Sweetapple) Gordon. On July 19th 1963 Garfield married Beulah Ellen Wagg of Howley. Garfield & Beulah have been married for 45 years. Garfield worked for the Provincial Department of Transportation for 37 years. At one point in his career he was superintendent of Operations for Western Nfld & Labrador. He passed peacefully away on Tuesday, December 30th 2008 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook surrounded by his loving family. In addition to Beulah, he leaves to mourn his two daughters; Glenda (Derrick Crocker) of Pynn's Brook, & Delores Gordon (Dr. Kenneth LeDez) of St. Phillips. He also leaves behind six grandchildren; Justin & Kayla Crocker, Kendall, Kaden, Colton, & Carson LeDez. Garfield also leaves behind six brothers & three sisters; George (Emily) of Pynn's Brook, Gerald (Louise) of Deer Lake, Daryel (Lorraine) of Deer Lake, Ronald (Cavelle) of Pynn's Brook, Terrence of Pynn's Brook and Charles (Caroline) of Bonneville, AB, sisters; Gloria (Carl) Langdon of Deer Lake, Geraldine (Maxwell) Chapman of Torbay, and Dorothy (Terry) Collins of Pynn's Brook, his sisters-in-law; Mrs. Ruth Wagg of Deer Lake, Mrs. Evelyn Westcott of Keswick, ON and Mrs. Maude Riggs of Bedford, NS, his brother-in-law Reginald (Susan) Pelley of Deer Lake. Garfield was predeceased by his parents; Mary & Alex, brother; Clifford, by Beulah's parents; Eli & Stella Wagg, sisters-in-law; Shirley Pelley & Shirley Gordon, his brothers-in-law; Thomas Wagg, Leonard Westcott, Roy Collins, and Jim Riggs. Garfield also leaves to mourn a large number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. The family will be receiving family and friends from Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake on Thursday January 1st 2009 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm, and also on Friday January 2nd 2009 from the hours of 10-12. The funeral service will take place on Friday January 2nd 2009 at 2pm from St. Paul's United Church in Deer Lake with the Rev. Dr. Tony Newell officiating with the burial to follow at the family plot of the United Church Cemetery in Wights Road, Deer Lake. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake.
