It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Arlene Louise MacDonald, age 54, of Glace Bay. Arlene passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alphonsus and Anna Mae (MacIntyre) MacDonald. Arlene was a resident of Spryfield for many years. She was a devoted employee with the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax for 27 years where she made a lot of lasting friendships. She enjoyed knitting caps and mittens for the IWK and made scarves and head bands for the Cancer Unit in Sydney. When Arlene returned to Glace Bay she resided with her sister, Mary Slade and her husband, Stevie.
Arlene will be sadly missed by her son, Adam, Nanaimo, B.C.; brothers, Robert (Cathy), Calgary, Tommy (Cheryl), Glace Bay; sisters, Mary (Stevie) Slade, Glace Bay, Lily, Reserve Mines, Beverly, Vancouver; grandson, Jonathan; many nieces and nephews, grandniece, Julia Nearing and grandnephew, Caleb Nearing.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her uncle, Murdock MacIntyre.
In honouring Arlene's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
