It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. John Garfield McNamara, 72, of Glace Bay passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel (Gillis) McNamara.
Garfield was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay. He was employed with Devco retiring after 34 years of service. Garfield enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He will be sadly missed by his loving life of 53 years, Georgina (Lahey); daughters, Arlene (Jerry) Walsh, Glace Bay, Jerri (Billy) Burke, Cole Harbour, Melanie Sinclair, Glace Bay; sons, Shawn, Pictou, Kevin (Paula) and Glen, both of Glace Bay; brothers, Adrian, Glace Bay, Emmerson, Halifax, Cyril, Truro, Jœy, Ontario; 15 cherished grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Garfield was predeceased by brothers, Francis, Greg, grandson and great-granddaughter.
Visitation for Garfield will be held Friday, April 16, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, April 17 at St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Cremation will follow. A luncheon will be held in the church hall. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
