We wish to announce the passing of Emily Flynn, age 88, on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at her home on Tracey Street, Glace Bay, after a short illness.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John Norman and Mary Catherine (MacNeil) MacPherson.
Emily was a devout member of St. John the Baptist Church, Glace Bay. She was very active in church affairs and was a member of the Ladies Guild.
Emily was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital as a nurse's aid for several years.
She loved her game of 45s but her greatest joy was her family. She will be sadly missed by all.
Emily is survived by her sons, Joe (Helen), Kentville, Darrell (Eileen), Glace Bay, Earl, at home; and her daughter-in-law, Olga (Parsons) Flynn, Glace Bay. She is survived by six grandchildren, Patsy (Barry LeBlanc), Dan (Christine), Mark, Paddy, Emily Grace, Bill and three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Jonathon LeBlanc, Danielle Flynn (affectionally called her great mothers); one sister, Elvina; three brothers, Norman, Rod, William (Eileen), all in Ontario; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Emily was predeceased by her husband, William Flynn, two sons, John Francis, Freddie, one sister, Mae (Wadden), four brothers, Danny, Neil, Matthew, Frank and a grandchild in infancy, Betty Anne Flynn.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7-9 and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Bill
Rankin is Friday morning at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception at the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Emily may be made to palliative care, VON or the Red Cross of Cape Breton.
