It is with deep sadness , we the family announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, grandfather and uncle, Fraser Drummond MacKenzie, on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Fraser was born in Ross Ferry, the son of the late J. Fraser and Margaret (Matheson) MacKenzie.
Fraser served overseas during the Second World War with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 8, Sydney Mines.
In his earlier years he was captain on the ferry boats at Ross Ferry.
In 1958, Fraser and his family moved to the U.S.A. to work, returning home in 1975.
Fraser is survived by two sons, Murdock, Menden, Mass., U.S.A., Robert, Ross Ferry; his brother, Rindress (Gavinna) MacKenzie, Boularderie East; sisters-in-law, Maria Shaw, Fredericton, and Margaret MacKenzie, Yarmouth; also special niece, Joyce Trenholm; special family friend, Beverly Bungay; grandchildren, Murdock Jr., Florida, Kathy, Franklin, Mass., Scott, Framingham, Mass., Rob (Kathy), Alberta, Beth, Knoxville, Tenn., Jœy (Heather), Alder Point; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Murdella (MacFarlane) MacKenzie in 2009, sisters, Mary Crowdis, Ruth MacFarlane, brothers, Sandy, Hector, Raymond and Christopher MacKenzie.
Honouring Fraser's wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Drummond Memorial United Church, Ross Ferry, with Rev. Sean Handcock officiating, at a later date.
Donations may be made to Drummond Memorial United Church or a charity of one's choice.
