Katherine Ellen Chevrier (McKinnon) died peacefully surrounded by her family, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the age of 92. Born in Douglastown, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Neil and Sarah (Patterson) and the wife of the late Edgar Harold Chevrier, who passed away in 1982. She is survived by her five children: Kenneth Chevrier (Maureen) of Beaconsfield, PQ, Kathleen Panet (Robert) of Pointe-Claire, PQ, Karen Logan (Stephen) of Thamesville, ON, Geraldine Laevska (Lefter) of Campbellton, N.B., and Gerry Chevrier (Sara) of Stanley, N.B. Kay graduated with an RN from Hotel Dieu Hospital in Chatham and went on to serve for five years in the Canadian army overseas during WWII. She, then, met her husband and settled in Montreal, where she lived for 47 years before returning to her beloved Miramichi in 1992. Nana Kay was adored by her grandchildren: Hristo, Alex, Anais, Mark, Andrew, Sarah, Emily, Edward, Desiree, Daniel, Liona, and her great grandchildren Kristina, Michelle, Angie, Marika and Katerina. Kay was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her four brothers Gerald, Joseph, Neil and Kenneth.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 24th at 1:00 pm, at St. Samuel's Catholic Church in Douglastown. Burial will follow. A reception will be held immediately afterwards in the church hall. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the angelic staff on 3 East and in the Palliative Care unit of the Miramichi Regional Hospital, and to Dr. Gerard Losier and to the other doctors who took such good care of her. Instead of flowers, donations could be made to the Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
