It is with great sadness that the family of the late Walter Jacob Rice announce his passing at the O'Connell Centre in Corner Brook, on Thursday, September 11th 2008 at the age of 89 years. Walter was born in Bear Cove, on July 4th 1919 to Hezikiah & Lucy Rice. As a young man he met and married Gladys Pearl Eveleigh. They were married for 37 Years and raised six children. He was known as a hard worker as a lumberjack in the woods, and also worked with the Department of Transportation. He had a great passion for the button accordian and a great love for his family dearly and also a love for dogs. This talents was also passed on to his children. Left with fond and loving memories; sons: Donald (Beverly), Edwin (Glenice), Norman Jr. (Shirley), Bert (Louise) and his twin daughters; Viola (Gerald Parsons) and Vera (Garland Rice). His grandchildren; Glynis, Curtis, Robert, Rhonda, Larry, Cory, Krissy, Bobby, Andrew, Aaron, Adam, Alex, Amanda, Blair, Jody, Julia, and Joey. His 14 great grandchildren. His brother: Kenneth (Elizabeth) and sister: Cynthia Lockyer both of Springdale. He also leaves to mourn a large circle of other relatives and friends. Walter was predeceased by his parents; Hezikiah and Lucy Rice, his wife; Gladys Dec 16 1987, brothers; Sidney 1977, Pearce 2004, Norman 2005, and Garland 1923, his sister; Dorcas 1923, and his brother in law; Lewis Lockyer. The family will be receiving family and friends from the Anglican Church in Hampden today, Saturday September 13th, 2008, from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm and also on Sunday September 14th, 2008, from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm, where also the Funeral service will take place on Monday September 15th, 2008 at 2 pm with the Rev. Hannah Dicks officating. Burial to follow at the family plot of the church cemetery in Hampden.
