It is with great sadness that our family announce the sudden passing of John MacNeil, age 63, beloved son, husband, brother and uncle on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Humber Valley Hospital, Toronto, after a brief illness.
Born in North Sydney on July 11, 1946, John was the son of Josephine (Hood) and the late Roddie MacNeil.
Affectionately known as 'Buller' by his friends, he received his early education at St. Mary's and St. Joseph schools and then graduating at Thompson High in 1964. John worked at the CN Express for 3 years and furthered his education at the Cape Breton Business College. Graduating, John put his education to work as an accountant joining the R.C.A.F. in 1967, lasting for 27 years. After his retirement he joined the Corp of Commissionaires and worked out of Pearson Airport in Toronto until his passing.
Besides his mother Josie MacNeil, North Sydney, John is survived by his wife Rosalie, Mississauga; brother, Paul (Mabel) MacNeil and nephews, Jeff and Roddie, Hillside Boularderie; his Aunt, Ellen Hood (the late Roddie), North Sydney; Uncle, Bill and Aunt, Mary Hood, Calgary, and Aunt Alice Moore, California; Buller's many friends in Toronto and lastly, all of his old buddies and friends locally, especially Walter & Cathy Robinson, where he spent so many wonderful times back in Toronto so many years ago, and when he was home on summer vacations. Buller was away for 43 years but never failed to come home to see his Mom, his buddies and Cape Breton. Buller you will be missed by all.
A Funeral Mass for John will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
