With deep sorrow we, the family of the late Scottie MacQueen, announce his sudden passing on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born February 23, 1932 in Sydney Mines, Scottie was well known for his excellent carpentry skills and worked with Maritime Builders (Sydney), Layton's Lumber and up until his retirement, as a supervisor of facilities with the town of Sydney Mines.
He leaves behind to mourn his wife, the former Joan Whalen; his daughter, Lindsay (John Tanner), Milford, N.S.; sons, Allan (Kellie), Sydney and John (Traci), Sydney Mines; his beloved granddaughters, Kalin, Katherine, Kristen and Jenna. Scottie is also survived by brother, William 'Buddy' (Joyce) MacQueen; half-brothers, Harry (Nerta), Clarence (Ida), Billy and Joseph Jerrett; and Scottie's pet cat, Tina.
He was predeceased by his mother, Flora Jerrett, maternal grandparents, Lauchie and Annabelle MacQueen, sister, Elsie Miller and brothers, Roddy, Dan, Robert and John Jerrett.
There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m., Monday, April 26, 2010, in Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Burial to take place at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made in Scottie's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of N.S. or the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.
