ROSS "KELLY" CARIN

Lieu de naissance : North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada

Lieu de décès : Kamloops, Colombie Britannique, Canada
Date de décès : 10 avril 2010

In the early morning hours of April 10, 2010, Kelly Carin passed away at the age of 85 with his daughter, Leslie, by his side.

Kelly was born just outside of North Battleford, Saskatchewan. He was the only son of Ralph and Lotty Carin and lived there with his younger sister Kathleen (Sissy) Bravener until going off to University in Saskatoon at the age of 17. Kelly had a change of heart and after only one term at University decided to join the Navy during WWII. When the war ended Kelly returned to Saskatoon and University. There he met and married the love of his life, Doreen Hewitt. Kelly and Doreen had a wonderful life together supported by Kelly's successful career in the Oil Refining Business. After over 33 years of service, Kelly retired when the Kamloops Petro Canada Refinery was closed down in 1983.

Kelly was a very talented sportsman who loved to compete. In his youth, he played hockey and golf. As a young man, he golfed, curled, fished and was an avid game bird hunter but after moving to Kamloops in 1963 turned his focus to golf and curling.

Golf:
In 1940 at the age of 15, Kelly won the North Battleford Amateur and in 1941, he was the Saskatchewan Junior Champion. In 1946, he was the North Battleford Champion and in 1947, he was the N.W. Saskatchewan Champion. Kelly won the Waskesiu Lake Lobstick Championship in 1952 and '58 and in 1961 captured the Prince Albert Labor Day Amateur Championship. Kelly represented Saskatchewan on the Wellington Cup Team six times in '54, '55, '56, '57, '58 and '60. He was the Saskatoon City Champion, the Saskatoon G. & C.C. Champion, in '69 he won the Kamloops Sunshine Open and in '70, he was the Kamloops G. & C.C. Champion. In his golf career, he had five Hole-In-Ones.

Curling:
In 1957, the team Kelly played with was runner-up as Saskatchewan Representative for the MacDonald Brier. He represented British Columbia in five Canadian Championships. In 1967, he played with Joe McKinnon's Kamloops team at the Canadian Legion Championship. In 1971, he skipped the team that represented B.C. in the Canadian Mixed. His wife, Doreen, played lead along with Eve and George Stringer. In '75, he represented B.C. at the Canadian Legion, in '78, he skipped the B.C. team in the Canadian Senior Men's and in '82, he went to the Canadian Senior Men's Championship again, this time playing third for Bert Thorne.

There are few people who have this much success in one sport let alone two. Kelly was certainly an accomplished athlete.

Kelly was predeceased by his beautiful wife Doreen, his son Ross Kent Carin, his sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Bob Bravener of Point Roberts, WA, and his brother-in-law Alvin Hewitt of Perdue, Saskatchewan.

He will be sadly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Mark Severson of Coquitlam, B.C., his two grandchildren, Kelli and Andy Severson of Coquitlam, B.C., his nephew and his family, Lee Bravener of Blaine, WA, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Jim Thrash of Spokane, WA, his nephew and his family, Barry Thrash of Spokane, WA, his nephew and his family, Brent Thrash of Spokane, WA, his sister-in-law, Doreen Hewitt of Perdue, SK, and his four nieces and their families, Brenda Patton of Regina, SK, Cheryl Pollock of Vancouver, B.C., Myrna Barclay of Regina, SK and Norma Hewitt of Weyburn, SK.

There will be a private family graveside service at Hillside Cemetery where Kelly will be laid to rest beside his wife, Doreen.
