BATTEN, Hattie Claudine - Passed peacefully away at St. Luke's Home on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 with her loving family by her side, Hattie C. Batten, in her 92nd year, born July 26, 1917. She began her teaching career as a teenager where she taught in one room schools around Newfoundland, to western Canada and eventually to Montreal where she settled. Newfoundland was always "home" and she would spend her summers here and returned five years ago to be closer to her family. Hattie was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Annie, her siblings: Evelyn, Norman and Herman and her sister-in-law Edna (Earle). Leaving to celebrate her life are David Batten, his wife Judy and their children Greg, Jenny, Zachary, Kyra and Alexis, her sister-in-law Clara Batten (Ottawa), along with many dear relatives and friends. At Hattie's request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at St. Luke's Chapel on Saturday, April 24 at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow. A private family interment will be held at a later date and in lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.
