1927 - 2010 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Myrtle "Shirley" (Wright) Lockhart of Hillsborough and, more recently, Riverview, on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the Moncton Hospital with her family by her side. Shirley was born in Hillsborough on February 3, 1927, the daughter of the late Ernest and Delta (Lowther) Wright. She lived in their family home for most of her 83 years. Shirley worked for the T. Eaton Company in the jewellery department for several years. Shirley also enjoyed working at Hillsborough Fashions after her children were grown. She was a very involved member of the Hillsborough United Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was President of the United Church Women on numerous occasions. She volunteered for countless community events. Shirley was also very involved in her children's school and extracurricular activities such as Fundy Blades, The Hillsborough Girls Choir, sports and Home and School. Shirley was well-known by the youth in Hillsborough for her famous chocolate chip cookies and at bake sales for her Christmas fruit cake. She delighted in serving her guests baking and refreshments and catching up on the latest news of friends and family. Shirley relished daily updates on her beloved grandchildren's activities and accomplishments. They have greatly benefited from her loving warmth and positive outlook. Some of Shirley's memorable qualities were her heartfelt compassion for family and friends, her kindness and that twinkle in her beautiful brown eyes. Shirley will be remembered in the hearts of many for her gifts of selflessness, optimism, laughter and her humble spirit. She will be deeply missed by her four daughters, Janet Lockhart of Moncton, Patricia Lockhart of Riverview, Anne Terris (Darren) of Lower Coverdale and Lucie Brown (Bob) of Fredericton; by her six precious grandchildren, Margot, Luc, Lindsey, Shannon, Logan and Megan; and by a very special niece, Beverley Johnstone. She will also be missed by her three sisters-in-law, Jessie Blight (Bill) and Connie Ward of Riverview and Shirley Ford (Robert) of Point-Du-Chene as well as several nieces and nephews and by many good friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her only sister, Mary Rose, her brother-in-law, Doug Rose, her brother-in-law, Harold Ward, one sister-in law, Pamela Wall and by her nephew and godson, John Ford.
She will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Hillsborough United Church on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating. Following the service, the family will be meeting with relatives and friends at the church for further sharing of memories and for refreshments. Interment will be in Grey's Island Cemetery at a later date. Donations to the Hillsborough United Church, Friends of the Moncton Hospital or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements are in care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, 734-2780
