Phyllis Claire Nicholson (nee Bell) of Fredericton, NB, passed away peacefully in her beautiful new room at York Manor on Sunday, April 25, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sunny Brae, NB on October 30, 1921. Phyllis made Fredericton her home for almost 50 years; but her heart always remained with her beloved PEI. Phyllis was the daughter of the late Russell and Pearl (Ferguson) Bell and was married to the late Albert Nicholson, her beloved husband of 62 years. Phyllis was a very devoted and active member of the Nashwaaksis United Church and UCW. After raising her three children, Phyllis made many friends working at The Smoke Shoppe on Queen Street and McElman's on York. After retiring, her devotion to her family led her to being caregiver for two of her granddaughters. Phyllis was very close to her family and friends; her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her life. She was a fabulous cook and famous for her scotch cakes and gingersnaps. Phyllis loved to shop and entertain, especially with her dancing. For 16 months, Phyllis made York Manor her home. The staff there became her extended family being with her everyday and providing her comfort during her final days. She was truly blessed. Phyllis is survived by one son, Gary (Carol) Nicholson of Fredericton, NB; two daughters, Bonnie (Clinton) Colpitts of Quispamsis, NB and Darlene (Kevin) Pottle of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Krista MacMillan (Steve), Hilary Nicholson (Bob), Kelly Turnbull (Jeff), Victoria Hitchcock (Matthew), Eric Nicholson and Kristen Pottle; great grandchildren, Matthew MacMillan, Benjamin Turnbull, Sarah MacMillan and baby, Noah Hitchcock. Besides her parents and husband, Phyllis was predeceased by her brother, Lorne Bell of Halifax, NS.
Although there will be no visitation by request of the family, a Memorial Service will be held from Nashwaaksis United Church on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. George Feenstra officiating. Reception will follow at the church. Interment will take place at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Valley, PEI. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Alzheimer Society or the York Foundation would be appreciated. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
