SHAW, Lawrence Eugene - 71, of Sandford, Yarmouth Co., passed away on April 26, 2010 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth on December 30, 1938, he was the youngest son of the late Fred and Leona (Crowell) Shaw, of Sandford, Yarmouth Co. He lived his entire life in Sandford. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Hazel (Lyons); daughter, Laura (Carl); sons, Sidney (Taushonna), Halifax; Charles (Heather), Gardiners Mill; Stephen (Wendy), Barrington; Laurie (Lisa), Sluice Point; brothers, Floyd (Shirley), Pugwash; Kenneth (Flora), Sandford; mother-in-law, Nellie Lyons, Chegoggin; brother-in-laws, Percy (Doris) Lyons, Omemme, ON.; Alfred Bullerwell, Yarmouth; sister-in-law, Ruth Thompson, Chegoggin; 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Corrine and her son Russell Bullerwell; brothers, Leonard (Ernestine) and Jack Shaw; father-in-law, Charles Lyons; brother-in-law, Malcolm. He worked with Canadian National Railways (Ferry Services) as a ticket clerk. On November 1, 1973, he joined Revenue Canada Customs & Excise as a Customs Officer until his retirement on October 31, 1999. He was a member of the Sandford United Baptist Church. He was also a Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Hiram Lodge #12, where he was a past member and also served as the Treasurer for 13 years. He was also a Shriner of Philae Temple and Sou'West Shrine Club. He obtained his amateur radio license in May of 1991 and had the call signs VE1SLE and VA1LS. He was also a member of the Executive of Sandford Community Cemetery Committee, and voluntarily assisted in mowing the cemetery lawn. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Wednesday, April 28 from 7-9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service was held Thursday, April 29 at 4 p.m., Rev. Scott MacDonald officiating. Both took place in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. Family flowers only, please.
