UPHAM, Carl - 68, Truro, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, May 1, 2010, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born October 10, 1941, in Truro, he was a son of Ida Upham, Truro, and the late Harold Upham. Along with his mother, Carl is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Gloria (MacMillan); children, Stacey (Jason) Lindholm, Victoria, British Columbia; son, Devin (Stacey Laureyssens), Toronto; brother-in-law, Bill (Pearl) MacMillan, Stellarton; sisters-in-law, Judy (Pat) Murphy, Green Hill; Gail MacMillan, Truro; mother-in-law, Reta MacMillan, New Glasgow; aunts, Lyma MacLellan, Barrie, Ontario; Doris Ryan, Victoria, British Columbia; dear friend, Cheryl Ewing, Truro; several cousins, nieces and nephews. His grandchildren, Alexander and Thomas, of Victoria, British Columbia, will remember him as a playful and silly grandfather. Carl was employed by the Town of Truro for 40 years where he served predominantly as Deputy Town Clerk. He was proud to be a member of the Planning Committee, Recreation Committee and Tree Commission as well as countless other Town committees. He was honoured with a lifetime membership in the Municipal Administrators of Nova Scotia for his dedication to the Town of Truro. He was also granted lifetime membership in the Kinsmen Club of Canada in recognition of his many contributions to the club in Truro, having served as president and other executive posts. He was an active member of the Truro Prostrate Cancer Group and lent his expertise to First Baptist Church, Truro, as a Treasurer and Youth Leader. Those who knew him will remember his passion for music. He enjoyed dancing and entertaining friends, family and others at home and at functions in town. A great sense of humour and a fun loving spirit will be absent from the many games he enjoyed playing with friends and family. He loved his home town and even though he traveled extensively, one of his favourite places was Victoria Park, where he walked regularly. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Carl's family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., today, May 3, 2010. A celebration of Carl's life will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2010, in First Baptist Church, 759 Prince Street, Truro, Reverend John Tonks officiating. Reception will follow in Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carl's memory to Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation, First Baptist Church Music Ministry or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester are welcomed.
