1920 - 2010 - Angus "Tony" "Scotty" Martin of Hillsborough passed away peacefully in his 90th year on May 1st, 2010 at the Moncton Hospital with his loving family by his side. Angus was born in Pictou, N.S. on May 5, 1920 the son of the late Malcolm and Catherine J. (MacDonald) Martin. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in WWII with the Military Police. Later he worked at T.Eaton and Company. He was affiliated with the United Church of Canada. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #32 Hillsborough where he served as Past President and has been a member for 55 years. Tony really enjoyed all sports especially curling, being Past President of the MCA Curling Club. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed skating and hockey. His favorite hockey team was the Montreal Canadians and in baseball the Toronto Blue jays. He also really enjoyed race horses. He lived life to the fullest and never took anything for granted. He had a great sense of humour and loved to talk to everyone, you could find him telling stories and jokes to anyone who would listen. He also loved politics, he was very proud of his Liberal background. He loved music and sang in the Albert County Men's Choir at one time, with his many friends. Above all things he was a devoted and caring father. He cherished all the time spent with his family and had a very special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were his pride and joy. He was a very special man who will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever. "Ever remembered- ever loved" He will be deeply missed by his beloved daughter, Heather Steeves (Gary) of Hillsborough; treasured grandsons, Darin (Christa)) and Trent; precious great grandchildren, Kelsey, Ella, Claudia, Marisa and Brodie; the mother of his children and close friend, Bessie (Bleakney) Martin; sisters-in-law, Louie Martin of Montague, PEI and Ida Sherwood of Hillsborough, New Jersey; brother-in-law, Vaughn Bleakney of Stellerton, N.S. He will also be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews, good friends, Joe and Stella Keayes and by Jean's family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his second wife, Jean (Greenbank) Martin; his daughter, Holly Anne Martin; brother, Hurmon Martin; sisters, Mary Martin and Elizabeth Kingsley.
He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Monday, May 3rd, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 4th, 2010 at 2:00pm. Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and friends for further sharing of memories and for refreshments at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations to Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #32, Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
