Irene Vivian Jeans passed away peacefully at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, N.S., in the early morning hours of May 1, 2010.
She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Catherine (LeTourneau) Gallop.
She was predeceased by her husband, Perley Jeans, son, Douglas, grandson, Troy, as well as sisters, Olive and Evelyn, brothers, Jack, Frank and Claude. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by one daughter, Deborah, Quebec City; five sons, William (Sharon), Halifax, Ralph (Judy), Coxheath, Harvey, Sydney, Alan (Judy), Orangeville, Ont., Dwight (Calla), Florenceville, N.B. She is also survived by grandchildren, Christopher, Carla, Michael, Kevin, William, Anthony, Jason, Mercedes, Samantha, step grandson, William Farr; as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
Irene was very active throughout her lifetime with her family and also had time for many activities which included arts and crafts as well as quilting. She participated in many craft shows with her teddy bears and ceramic displays. Many of her friends benefited from her talents and generosity by being presented with gifts made by her. She was also involved for several years in the girl guide movement where she shared her talents with many young girls.
A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Seaview Manor in Glace Bay who treated her with such care and made her feel so at home. Her family is very grateful.
Visitation for Irene will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, May 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Service will be held Tuesday, May 4 at Sydney Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m., followed by a reception to be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Andrew's Church or Seaview Manor Auxiliary.
