Passed away suddenly at St. Mary Hospital, Langhorne, Pennsylvania, U.S. on Saturday, May 1, 2010, Master Warrant Officer, Walter John Higdon (Retired) of New Harbour, aged 66 years. Predeceased by father Robert L. Higdon and brother Leo. Leaving to mourn with precious memories are his mother Viola Higdon; special friend Kathy Porter; daughters: Heidi Parish (Jim), Toronto, ON, Heatherlea Rathwell (Wayne), Kingston, ON, Hope McLaughlin (Rob), Brampton, ON, Holly Fraser (Campbell), Wellington, New Zealand and granddaughters: Colleen, Kayleigh and Reese; grandsons: Ian and Cole. He is also lovingly remembered by brothers: Edgar (Julie), Mervin (Beverly); sisters: Laura (Ron) Field and Emily (Harry) Higdon; as well as a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association and the NATO Veterans Organization, Canadian Forces Decoration, Two Bars 125th Canadian Anniversary Medal, NATO Medal for the former Ugoslavia, Non Article 5 NATO Medal Balkans Operation, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, Special Service Medal NATO Germany, General Service Medal Afghanistan War, also a member of the Queen's Own Rifles, the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corp and the Logistic Branch of the Canadian Forces, he served with NATO in Germany, as well as numerous postings in Canada and after retiring went on to serve with the military in Bosnia Herzegovina and in Afghanistan. He will be resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Dildo, at a time to be announced. As an expression of sympathy, donations in John's memory may be made to the St. Augustine's Church Cemetery Fund.
