The passing of Patrick Cain occurred on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. He was 83 years old. Born May 13, 1926 in Fredericton, New Brunswick he was the son of the late Leo F. Cain and Gertrude (Guay) Cain. Predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (Nash) Cain. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Bremner (John) his two sons, Mark Cain and Leo Cain (Michelle) as well as grandchildren Michael McGrath and Brittany and Abbey Cain. In addition, he is survived by brother's Bernard Cain (Ursula) and Murray Cain (Joan) as well as many nieces and nephews. Pat was self employed for many years running "Bearings & Equipment Ltd.". He later joined the provincial government where he was Director of the Drug & Alcohol Dependency Commission until his retirement. Pat served with the Navy during the Second World War. He was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4. His voice could be heard on Remembrance Day at the cenotaph where he served as parade marshal. In his earlier years, Pat had a passion for race horses and boating on the Saint John River system aboard the "Lollipop III". He also loved curling and was a member of the Capital Winter Club and had fond memories of his time with the "foursome". For many years, Sunday mornings were spent with his "old gang" of friends at the Beaverbrook Hotel where many problems were solved over breakfast. As well, he enjoyed his visits to the Legion for a "cold one" and to see old friends and when asked how things were going, Pat would say "simply grand". In his last few years of life, Pat developed Alzheimer's. He resided until his death at the D.V.A. Veterans Wing. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
He will be resting at McAdam's Funeral Home (458-9170). Visitation will be Tuesday, May 11th from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 12th at 2 pm. in the chapel at McAdam's Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Trzop officiating. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 will hold a tribute during the funeral service. Interment will follow in the Hermitage Cemetery.
