DENNY HARDING

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Denny Harding on May 10, 2010.
Denny was the youngest son of Fred and Rose Harding and grew up on the family farm near Melaval, SK. Denny farmed and did carpenter work and cement work, putting in sidewalks in Melaval, Lafleche and Limerick with his father. He went to Moose Jaw in 1954 and worked for a contractor and then returned home to farm in 1955. When his father passed away in 1967 Denny purchased his land. On June 16, 1956 Denny married his sweetheart, Evelyn Layman in Melaval, SK. Together they made their home and farmed in the Melaval district. Celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends was very special to Denny. Denny and Evelyn enjoyed many trips, including Hawaii, Las Vegas, Florida and Victoria. Denny played ball for Melaval in the Dunning League. He enjoyed watching his nephews play ball with the Lafleche Merchants, cheering on the Assiniboia Jr. B Rebels, attending the Wood Mountain Rodeo, golfing, square dancing, horseshœs and bowling. Denny leaves behind to remember him always, his loving wife Evelyn of 53 years (and "Sam"); sister Elsie Hoskins; brother Ronnie (Millie) Harding; sisters-in-law Shirley Harding, Lois Harding, Ruth Mattson and Rollie Free; brother-in-law Leroy (Melva) Layman; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Denny was predeceased by his parents Fred and Rose Harding; three brothers Earl Harding, John Harding and Morris Harding; three sisters Marj Mehain, Rita Matheson and Ella Shumay; brothers-in-law Jack Hoskins, Jack Mehain, Duncan Matheson, Steve Shumay and George Mattson; and father and mother-in-law Frank and Zola Layman. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Lafleche United Church, Lafleche, SK at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Linda Tomlinson officiant. Music, Pauline Crone and Southern Voices. Honorary and Active pallbearers, Denny's nephews and nieces. Interment, Melaval Cemetery. Memorial donations in Denny's memory to St. Joseph Hospital Foundation Bag Service 50 Gravelbourg, SK S0H 1X0 and Canadian Cancer Society 61B Ross St. W Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2M2. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels, Assiniboia and Gravelbourg.
