William Camp

William Sterling Camp passed away quietly in Halifax, surrounded by his family. Born in Westfield, Kings County, N.B., he was a son of the late Audrey L. (Foshay) and Frederick S. Camp. Following graduation from High School, Bill was employed with what is now, The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and served in a number of Maritime locations. He left the bank in Shelburne in 1977 for employment with Continental Seafoods, and later as Director of Finance at Roseway Hospital; he retired in 1997 due to health concerns. Bill was a partner with his wife, Betty, in the establishment of The Whirligig Book Shop in Shelburne from which he derived much pleasure. From an early age Bill had been involved with church and community. He held a number of positions on the Official Board of Trinity United Church where he was also a Sunday school teacher, Youth Choir director and an organizing member of the Men's Club. He was a founding member of the Shelburne County Archives and Genealogical Society, working with others to develop the society to what it is today. Bill was treasurer of the Building Committee of the Shelburne County Arena where he was involved with the Bingo Committee. Bill is survived by his best friend and wife, the former Elizabeth Ann Strathmore Smith of Saint John; one daughter, Pamela Elizabeth (Cory Melanson), Yarmouth; sons, David William (Kimberley D. Thorburne), Burton, N.B., and Brian Andrew (Pamela E. C. Hallett) of Shelburne; grandchildren, Jacob W.J. Melanson, Letisha M. Camp, Stephanie M. Camp, David Ryan Camp, Ashley E. Camp and Haley B. Camp; sisters in-law, Lillian J. (Nase) Camp, Saint John, N.B and Dorothy (Sear) Camp, North Vancouver, B.C; his uncle, Harold MacDonald Foshay of Peterborough, Ont; five nieces and one nephew, several cousins. Besides his parents Bill was predeceased by his brothers Gerald F. Camp and D. Gordon Camp, and nephew Roger W. Camp.
In accordance with Bill's instructions his body has been donated to Dalhousie Medical School for research. Visitation will take place on Friday evening, May 21st, from 7-9 pm in the sanctuary of Trinity United Church, located at the corner of Hammond and John Streets, Shelburne. A celebration of Bill's life will take place on Saturday, May 22nd at 11 am, Reverend Joanne McFadden officiating with a reception in the Church Hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Queen Elizabeth 11 Health Sciences Centre, 1278 Tower Road, Halifax, N.S for the Heart Function Clinic; Roseway Hospital Foundation, Shelburne or any charity of the donors' choice would be appreciated.
