Passed away suddenly at the Meadow Creek Retirement Home on Thursday, May 7, 2009, Irene Cook (nee Colbourne), age 85 years. Predeceased by beloved husband William Grant (Bill), her parents Fred and Jane Colbourne, sister Florence (West Virginia). Leaving to mourn beloved daughter Pamela (David Adey) and grandchildren: Paul and Heather; son Christopher (Victoria, B.C.); her brothers: Morgan (Linda) of St. John's, Willis (Rita), Bruce, Albert; sisters: Marjorie Strangemore (Everton) and Beryl Simms, all of St. Anthony; her sisters-in-law June Mason (Gary) and Joan Cook (Cyril deceased); as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews and friends at Meadow Creek. She will also be sadly missed by her canine friend Kallie who will miss Nanny's numerous treats from the milk bone jar. Special thanks to the staff of Meadow Creek Retirement Home who welcomed Mom with open arms and who cared for her and were so very kind to her since she took up residence with them last November - your love for Mom will always be remembered. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from Carnell's Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Bauline Line.
