DELANEY, Mabel Christene - 88, Hilden. It is with profound sadness the family of Mabel Christine Delaney announces her death on Friday morning, May 21, 2010, at Elk Court, Brookfield, surrounded by the love that she gave so readily to others. Mum was born November 16, 1921, in Tatamagouche, and was a daughter of the late James Ira and Elizabeth (Matheson) Nelson. She grew up in Amherst but lived in Hilden, where she was a member of Hilden United Church and a charter member of the Fireside Club. She worked at both Sobey's and Snook's in the meat department and then went on to work at the Nova Scotia Youth Training Centre for 17 years until her retirement. She was known for her sense of fun and her love of baking, especially fudge and cheese biscuits. She also never met a lobster she didn't like! Mabel was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by her children, Donald Ernest Delaney (Sally), Port Robinson, Ontario; David George Delaney (Anne), Abercrombie; Debbie Joyce Vissers (Martin), Hilden; Darlene Karen Delaney; grandchildren, Donald, Elizabeth, David, Patrick, Jeffery, Crystal, Wendy, Jason, Matthew; sister-in-law, Vera Nelson, Dartmouth; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband, Donald Eugene Delaney; sisters, Beatrice, Mona, Hazel; brother, William "Bill"; great granddaughter, Evelyn Rose Delaney. Special thanks are extended to all Mum's caregivers over the past four years, especially the loving staff at Elk Court who were her special angels. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Mabel's family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2010. All are welcome to come and share their special memories of Mabel at a celebration of her life that will be held 2 p.m., Monday, May 24, 2010, Reverend Ian Harrison officiating. Reception will follow. Private family interment in Hilden Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Mabel's memory to Hilden United Church or Canadian Diabetes Association are welcomed. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting the "Guest Book" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com

The angels sang "Amazing Grace",
The Lord came down and touched her face,
He held her hand and whispered low,
"Come with Me, it's time to go."
The gates of Heaven opened wide,
The angels lined up side by side,
A special gift was on the way,
The day God took Mum home to stay.
