Rose Marie Rhodena Christmas, 59, of 22 MicMac Cres., Membertou, peacefully passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Charles Herney of Membertou and the late Matilda ‘Tilly’ (Googoo) Herney.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Mission Church and St. Anthony Daniel parish. Rhodena’s strong commitment to children made her many years as a day care provider at the Wallace Bernard Day Care Centre, a daily joy for her until having to retire due to illness.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosalinde; sons, Raymond ‘Ray Chuck’ (Lisa), Russell (Lorelei), Rodney (Wanda), all of Membertou; also surviving are her precious seven grandchildren, Lloyd, Morgan, Joe Mike, Scotty, Elizabeth, Lyric and Sy’Rai, all of Membertou; sisters, Linda, Theresa, Hazel, Sylvia, Bernadine; brothers, Fred, Bruce, Mickey, Clifford, Logan, all of Membertou, Jeff of Regina; numerous godchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Sr. and a brother, Earl.
Visitation for Rhodena Christmas will take place at 22 MicMac Cres., Tuesday after 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church with Rev. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Interment in Membertou Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Research.
