Peacefully at the Margaret Stewart Ellis Home O’Leary on Friday, May 8, 2009, of Edith Mary Bernard, age 93 years. Born in Tignish, P.E.I., on Jan. 1, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Hon. Joseph and Zoe (nee Chaisson) Bernard. She worked with her father, the Hon. Joseph Bernard, at Goverment House, Charlottetown, from 1945 to 1950. She than went to Toronto, Ont., where she worked for many years as a receptionist for Dr. Hudson. She returned to P.E.I and resided at the Rev. W.J Phillips Residence, Alberton, and then at the Margaret Stewart Ellis Home, O’Leary, until her passing. Dear sister to Norma (late Dr. Roy ) Coleman of Ottawa, Ont., and Gloria (Joe) Pungarcher of Wisconsin, U.S.A. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Bernie Bernard of Sackville, N.B., and Ruby Bernard of Charlottetown. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Timothy (late Florence), Walter (late Betty), Letitia (late Dr. Eric) Loth, Elphege (Lefty), Marcella (late Guss) Gallant, Harold, Cecil, Omer, Rev. Ralph OMI, Joan (late James) Higgins. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton.Visiting hours Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral on Wednesday afternoon from St. Simon and St. Jude Church, Tignish, for funeral mass at 2 p.m. Interment in the family plot in the parish cemetery.
