It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Roy MacQueen of Glace Bay. Roy passed away peacefully on Monday, May 31, 2010, at he residence with his loving family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Lauchie and Effie (McVicar) MacQueen.
Roy was a coal miner all of his working life, working in several of our local mines retiring from Devco in 1992.
In earlier years Roy enjoyed family camping trips, watching wrestling matches and listening to country music. Besides time spent with his family, Roy enjoyed spending time with his beloved pets and could often be seen walking dogs on the beach at the end of South Street.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Shirley (Pettipas) MacQueen, stepdaughter, Noell MacLeod, sister, Catherine (Idris) Taylor, sister-in-law, Mabel (Carl) Morgan, all of Glace Bay; brothers-in-law, Marcell (Jean) Pettipas, Birch Grove, Dave (Eileen) Pettipas, Shelburn, Ont.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and his circle of friends at the Tim Hortons stores in Glace Bay.
Besides his parents, Roy was predeceased by brother, Duncan and niece, Margaret MacQueen.
In honouring Roy's wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Friday, June 4, 2010, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Michael A. Goodfellow officiating.
Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
