Doreen Carter, age 83 years, passed away Thursday, May 07, 2009 at the Victoria Hospital with her family by her side. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Mr. Jim Atcheson will officiate. Doreen is survived by her children Donna (Wayne) Anthony of Saskatoon, Brian (Paulette) Carter of Saskatoon, Doug Carter of Prince Albert; her 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Glenys Strayer of Moose Jaw; her numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ron Carter; her son Greg Carter; her parents Stanley and Bernice Proud; her brothers Mel (Dot) Proud and Lorne Proud; her sister Geneva (John) Stuart; her brother-in-law Don Strayer; her nephew Glen Strayer. Mom was born December 29, 1925 the second child of four to Stanley and Bernice Proud in Melville, SK. She married Ron Carter in September of 1949 in Melville and had 3 children before moving to Drayton Valley, AB where their fourth child was born. While in Alberta Mom along with her mother and Aunt Carrie found the “Truth†and embraced her faith for the rest of her life. After 6½ years mom and dad were transferred to Saskatoon and then to Prince Albert where she gained many more friends in the faith. We would take mom around to the green houses this time of year and she enjoyed always trying something new in the yard. She enjoyed her yard and planting for many years. In her spare time she loved to knit for the kids and grandchildren – from large siwashes to small dishcloths. Mom always had the coffee or tea on and a lot of baking for anyone who dropped by. Mom enjoyed the family gatherings. Mom participated in sports as a girl and loved to watch her children and grandchildren in their different sports. She embraced and loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Interment will take place in the Garden of Devotion, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Don Moriarty.
