Irene Mary Johnson, age 89, of Fredericton NB passed away on January 22, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton NB. God called an angel to His side. Irene was born in L’Ardoise, Richmond Co., Cape Breton on September 27, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Elizabeth Briand of L’Ardoise, Cape Breton. Irene moved to Glace Bay NS at an early age to find work and that is where she met her future husband Neil. They lived in Glace Bay for 64 years, raising a family of 5 children. In 2002, Irene and Neil moved to Fredericton NB to be closer to her children and grand children. Irene is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years who resides at Mountainside Lodge in Fredericton NB., daughters; Alice (Don) Gardiner Halifax NS; Ann (Michael) Skinner Halifax NS; Ruth (Ernest ) McCallum Fredericton NB; and sons Gordon (Dale) Johnson Halifax NS; Roy (Chris) Johnson Moncton NB. Irene has 9 grandchildren: Lynn, Donna, Michael-David, Sandra, Kerri-Lee, Steven, Andrew, Derrick and Loren. She also has 10 great-grandchildren and two step great- grandchildren. Irene was predeceased by her infant son Raymond. Visitation and a “Celebration of Life†will take place at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main Street, Glace Bay on May 15th,Friday evening between 7-9PM. Funeral services will be held in St. Anthony’s Church on Saturday morning May 16that 11AM with Father Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens immediately after the Funeral Mass. Donations in Irene’s memory may be made to the Cancer Society.
