It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Eileen (MacAdam) Boutilier, 83, who died peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2010, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII.
Eileen was a daughter of the late Agatha Parker MacAdam LeBlanc and Hugh MacAdam.
She was born in Sydney on Feb. 4, 1927, and attended Holy Angels Convent, where she graduated as valedictorian. Throughout her youth, she was a member of numerous musical and theatrical productions. Eileen attended Mount Saint Bernard College following high school and later entered into the Congregation of Notre Dame where she taught classroom to elementary students and excelled as a music teacher in Montreal at Villa Maria, St. Joseph's Convent in Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Holy Angels Convent in Sydney. Throughout her career, she directed numerous award winning choirs.
Eileen married Ted Boutilier of Glace Bay in 1969 and resided in New Waterford, Cape Breton, where they lived for the next 26 years and raised their daughter, Constance Eileen. Eileen continued to teach piano to children and adults from her home and was a soloist and choir director for the St. Agnes choir. Eileen sang at weddings and was a member of the Cape Breton Chorale for many years.
She moved to Halifax to be with her daughter and family in 1998 after Ted's death. She became a member of the Chebucto Community Singers until her death and was a choir member at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rockingham.
Eileen was predeceased by sisters, Bessie (Ginger McGrath), Sr. Theresa MacAdam, CND, Sr. Patricia MacAdam, CND, Regina (Joe Fitzgerald), Mary (Tom Green); brothers, Donald (Margaret Quirk), Allen (Noreen Murphy), Hughie; sisters, Nora (Jack Holden then Gary Strickland), Sr. Agnes MacAdam, CND, Francess (Cam MacEachern), Connie (Vince Comeau) and her brother, George.
Surviving are the true joys and lights of her life, daughter, Conni Boutilier-McPhee; son-in-law, Stephen McPhee; her granddaughters, Stephani, Kassi and Mya, all of Halifax; her sisters, Margaret (Bill MacIntyre) of Sussex, N.B. and Theresa Lalonde (Bob Britton) of Cornwall, Ont. and many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Mary Hatcher.
Eileen was known to her grandchildren as Mum Mum, which is how she was known to all her friends and neighbours. Mum Mum was a true joy, a one of a kind lady and will be missed by all who knew and loved her gentle ways and kind, giving nature.
Visitation will be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, on Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held in St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, 45 Radcliffe Dr., Halifax at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010. Burial at a later date in New Waterford.
