1918 - 2010 - Joseph Oswald Melanson, 91, of Veterans' Health Centre, Moncton and formerly of Dieppe, NB, passed away on Friday, June 18th 2010, at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital. Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late Célime and the late Annie (née: Williams) Melanson. Mr. Melanson attended school at l'Academie in Moncton, College Ste.-Anne in Church Pt., NS and College St.-Joseph in Memramcook, before joining the CNR in 1939. In 1942, he joined the Canadian Army, where he served overseas with the 17th Hussars Duke of York Regiment. He returned to the CNR in 1946, where he held various positions such as storekeeper, analytical assistant, inspector of stores, regional supervisor and inventory control; and for the last two years, he held the post of general supervisor and inventory management. After retiring from CN, he worked in Tanzania, Africa for C.I.D.A. with Crandall Engineering for a short period and later at the Magnetic Golf Course Pro Shop for a few years. He was also a part-time member of the Militia. He is survived by his wife, Loretta (née: LeBlanc); his children: Linda Melanson (Robert Walter) of Ottawa, Jean-Louis (Karen) Melanson of Dieppe and Josette Melanson of Riverview; five grandchildren: Johnathan, Katie, Danielle, Jay and Jinette as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters: Dorilla, Fernande and Maria and also by one brother, Aurele.
