It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Leo J. W. Porter on Sunday, June 20, 2010. Leo passed away suddenly and peacefully at home in Fredericton Junction, NB. Born December 12, 1937 in Devon, NB. to the late Marvel and Nina (Arbeau) Porter. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley(Nason), his daughters; Mandy (Ed) Lewis, Bermuda, Crysta (Barry) Myrie, Fredericton Junction, NB, Lauren (Karim) Murji, Calgary, AB. The pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren; Raziq Murji, Kassi Murji and Jackson Myrie. As well as his Brothers and Sisters-in-law and many nieces & nephews.
Besides his parents, Leo is predeceased by his sisters; Eva Peterson, Mae Stewart, Florence Arbeau, his brother Vincent Porter,his brothers-in-law, Carl Nason and Edwin Nason and sister-in-law, Shirley (Inch) Nason.
Leo and Shirley spent 37 years preaching the gospel as officers with the Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda until his retirement in 1997. After retirement, he Pastored at Blissville United Baptist for three years and at many local churches when needed. Leo was an associate of the Baptist Church, a member Canadian Counseling Psychotherapy Assoc., NB Professional Counseling Assoc. and a Pastor with the ECA Ministerial Fellowship of Canada. It was his special joy to work with young people.
Relatives and friends are invited to Fredericton Junction United Baptist Church for visitations on Thursday, June 24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral service will be held at Tracy United Baptist Church on Friday, June 25, at 2:00 pm with the Rev. James Harrison officiating. Interment to follow in the Gladstone Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to Heart and Stoke Foundation or a charity of the Donors choice.
