It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved and precious daughter, Laura, age 34 years, on May 11, 2009, in Ottawa (formerly of Labrador City, N.L.) after a 12 year struggle with a brain tumour. Laura was a gentle lady full of grace, beauty, love and laughter.
Left to mourn with cherished memories are her loving parents, Graham and Bernice (Summers); sister, Susan (Charles) McCormack; brother, Paul (Kathleen); nephews: Carter, Keenan, Michael; niece Lillian; and faithful Godparents, Elaine Barnes and Albert Bradshaw. She is also fondly remembered by aunts and uncles, Arthur Summers (Elizabeth), Douglas (Hilda) Summers, Sharon (Robert) Bursey, David (Rita) Summers, Deborah Evans, Carolann (John) Crane, Gina (Stan) Boyd, and special great-aunt, Edith (Joseph) Quinn; as well as other very special relatives and numerous friends, too many to mention.
Special thanks and praise for the care and compassion shown to Laura through Care for Home Support and the staffs of the Civic Hospital and General Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, May 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 22 at St. Thomas’ Church, 8 Military Road in St. John’s.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Laura’s memory may be made to the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (3801 University Street, Montreal, QC, H3A 2B4).
