Susan Anne Garden LaPointe

Susan LaPointe, 62, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at her home in Truro, Nova Scotia. Born in Halifax on March 2, 1948, she was the daughter of Bud and Anna Garden (MacDonnell) of Enfield.

Susan was married to Terry LaPointe in Charlottetown, PEI, on May 22, 1971. She held a Bachelor of Arts degree in French Literature from UPEI, where she also worked at the university library. As a volunteer she was instrumental in the development of the library program at Willow Street Elementary School in the 1980s. Susan worked for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind in Truro from 1993 until 2000, and in the children's department of the Colchester East Hants Public Library for the past nine years. However, she considered her most important job to be raising her three sons, who were the centre of her life. She spent countless weekends carting her boys around the province to baseball, hockey, gymnastics, and football games, while still always managing to get them to Enfield in time for family dinner every Sunday evening. Susan loved to read and knit, and took great pleasure in knitting sweaters for her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Susan is survived by her husband Terry; sons Jonathan (Emily), Iain (Rebecca), and Stephen; grandchildren Rowan and Isaac; mother Anna Garden; and siblings Nora, David, Kathy, Michael, Stephen, Paula, Janice, John, and Sandra. She was predeceased by her father, Bud Garden.

The service will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro, NS, on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 11am, with a reception in the church hall at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colchester East Hants Public Library Foundation. Memories, stories, and condolences may be emailed to inmemoryofsusan@gmail.com.
