George Alexander Wilkins, husband of Shirley (Cashen) Wilkins, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 4, 1938 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Nelson and Rena (Armstrong) Wilkins. George was retired from The Research Station, where he had spent 30 years, supervising Potato Research. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing cards, working in the woods, playing guitar and the Old Time Country music. He spent many hours in his garage tinkering with any old engine, especially his tractor. George's favorite times were spent at Shinnickburn on the Cains River. George will be sadly missed by his wife and family. In addition to his loving wife, Shirley, George is survived by his four daughters, Juanita (Jeff) MacQueen of Douglas, NB, Mary (Bob) Martinson of Weyburn, SK, Lorraine (Keith) MacCausland and Sherry (Dwight) Drost all of Fredericton, NB; two sons, Randy of Woodstock, NB and Tim of Waasis, NB; five grandchildren, Cody and Connor MacQueen, Kelli Martinson, Jacob and Alyssa Wilkins; two brothers, Gerald (Delcina) Wilkins and Myles (Laurel) Wilkins; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his two sisters, Venetta and Winnie; five brothers, Nelson Jr. (Sonny), Bob, Roy, Ralph and Malcolm.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11 am with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Blissfield, NB on Friday at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the CNIB or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
