Surrounded by his loving family, Philemon Lawrence, husband of Florence (Brewer) Lawrence, of Burtts Corner, passed away on June 27, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on April 3, 1914 in Dorn Ridge, NB, he was a son of the late Philemon and Edna (White) Lawrence. He was a member of the Keswick Ridge United Church and a life long member of NB Liberal Association. He spent his entire life farming; he was also a member of the Holstein Association of Canada and the Dairy Farmers of New Brunswick. Philemon enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Toronto fan watching both the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. Besides his wife, Florence of 73 years, he is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Cole of Douglas and Charlotte Sheppard (Carl) of Burtts Corner; one son, George Lawrence (Sheila) of Burtts Corner; grandchildren, Jane Gourley (Stuart), Charles Sheppard (Trudy), Carla Sheppard (Garth), Darren Lawrence (Christie) and Philemon Lawrence (Amy); great grandchildren, Alexander and Jean Gourley, Joshua, Jenna and Tynan Lawrence, Ella, Keira and Annalise Lawrence and Brady Erlendson; brothers, Eldon Dunphy (Geraldine) of Douglas, Murray Dunphy and Lorne Dunphy (Jean) both of BC; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lawrence of ON; brother-in-law, Ralph Brewer of Burtts Corner; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Stephen Cole; grandson, Meurling Cole; sisters, Georgia Jewett (Kenneth) and Irene Brewer; brothers, Lauriston Lawrence (Winnifred) and Victor Lawrence; sister-in-law, Marlene Dunphy; step-sister, Dorothy Williams and step-brother, James Dunphy.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Keswick Ridge United Church on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Amos Adeniyi officiating and Rev. Boyce Martin assisting. Pallbearers for the service will be Stuart and Alexander Gourley, Charles Sheppard, Garth Erlendson, Darren and Philemon Lawrence. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will take place at Burtts Corner Community Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Keswick Ridge United Church, Fredericton and Area Down Syndrome Society or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
