James "Jim" F. Sartain, 78, of Moncton, with family members at his side passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Born in Hamilton, ON, he was the son of the late Frederick and Marion (McLennaghan) Sartain. Jim was a consummate entrepreneur having started in the glass business with Pilkington Glass in Saint John in 1952. He then went on to start his own business, Brunswick Glass Ltd., in Moncton in 1959 with a name change to Lamilite Ltd., in 1972, where he manufactured laminated safety glass. A glass factory was also started in Saratoga Springs, NY. The factory in Moncton was moved to Orangeville, ON, in 1982, along with several families who worked there. Jim retired in 1986. Along with his two sons, Jim came out of retirement and started another glass factory in Pointe aux Tremble, PQ, in 1989. Besides business accomplishments, he was a ski instructor, an avid sailor, Junior Sailing Chairman, Director of Shediac Bay Yacht Club, Chairman of the Orangeville Balloon Festival, life member of the Elks Club and crossword aficionado. He was also on the executive of the Moncton Club where many an idea was formed with his good friends and many a tale was told. Jim, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, leaves behind lots of great memories and love. Smooth sailing. Jim will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Doreen (Trumbley) Sartain; daughters, Michelle Ahern (Brian), Moncton, Cathy Sartain (Ben Ingebrigtson) Salmon Arm, BC; sons, Michael, Montreal, Tim, Shediac; grandchildren, Jeff, Andrew, Matthew, Katie, David, Stephen and Connor; great grandchildren, Annabelle, Zachary, Sienna and Braden. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patricia.
No visitation hours by personal request. Celebration of Life Service for Jim will be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), Saturday, July 3, 2010, 11:00am. Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. Reception will be held at the Moncton Club (115 Queen St.) following the Funeral Service. In Jim's memory, donations to Friends of the Moncton Hospital (Oncology or Palliative Care) would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences at
