Passed away peacefully May 18, 2009. Born in Hillview, NL. He was the son of the late Elias and Edith (Churchill) Avery. He was a veteran of the second world war in the Merchant Marine. He was an avid bird watcher, hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping. He enjoyed crosswords, hockey, cooking and bingo. Ross enjoyed working with his hands and doing his own handyman repairs around the house. He loved his dogs in which he has always had. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Joseph) Avery; daughters: Gloria Bernard, both of Dartmouth and Katherine Kelly, Corner Brook; sisters: Marita Russell, Corner Brook; Geneva (Walter) Loucks, Lincoln Park, Michigan; Brenda (Stan) Halfyard, Woody Point, NL; brothers: Austin (Marie), Mission, BC; and Leander, Clarenville, NL; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters: Dauphinee and Audrey, a brother, Ellis. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2009, with a memorial service to be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2009 all in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home. Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating.
