It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rhoda Ann Donovan, 75, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, Rhoda was the daughter of the late Augustus and Mary (Robertson) Yorke.
In her earlier years she was employed with H.B. Nickerson & Sons and Leonard Brothers Fish Plant. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, and a an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her loving husband, George Donovan; and a son, Joseph (Anna) Donovan, North Sydney; three grandchildren, Sean, Tracey and Lisa Donovan; four great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to her face, Joshua, Tristin, Owen and Angus; two sisters, Betty (Howard ‘Nip’) Hillier, Barbara (Alec) Nicholson, both of North Sydney; brother, Roddie (Wanda) Yorke, Bras d’Or; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters, Gerry Yorke, Jean Magilacuddy, Edna Voutier and Mary Yorke.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass for Rhoda will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Cape Breton or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit.
