It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Reg Brooman. Reg passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the age of 86 years. Reg was born in Prince Albert on February 5th 1923 to parents Richard and Mary Brooman. Reg lived in Prince Albert until he volunteered his services to the Canadian Armed Forces in 1942. He served in the Provost until 1946 being stationed in many places across Canada and England. Reg returned to Prince Albert and became a constable with the Prince Albert City Police on September 4, 1946 and worked his way to his appointment as Chief of Police on September 15, 1961. While serving as Chief, Reg opened 2 new stations, set up Prince Albert’s first traffic division in 1970, set up a young offenders program and school ride along programs in 1976 and started Saskatchewan’s first driving while impaired program. He served his community as Police Chief until his retirement in June 1981. During his time as a police officer he volunteered with many organizations including working as a Fire Arm Safety instructor/Regional Rep., became an honourary member of the Prince Albert Exhibition Association, lifetime member of the Elks and a member of the USI. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, which continued after his retirement. During his retirement Reg volunteered with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and became an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Reg also continued to work part time with Saskatchewan Government Insurance working on the Rates Appeal Board. He was a long time member and elder of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church. Reg was predeceased by his first wife Margaret (MacDonald), his parents Richard and Mary Brooman, his brothers Edwin and Harry (in infancy), his granddaughter Heather and his daughter-in-law’s son Mitchell. He is survived by his beloved wife Binnie, daughter Bunnie (Beatrice) Paul (son-in-law Gord), son Alan (daughter-in-law Teresa) and son Dean (daughter-in-law Stacey). He is also survived by his precious grandchildren Robert (Jenny), Jillian (Michael), Megan, Renae, Chantal and Teresa’s sons Rob and Greg. Also surviving Reg are his brother Roy, mother-in-law Julia Church and his much loved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Reg loved to spend time at Christopher Lake living his retirement years there. He enjoyed rock hounding, fishing, hunting, star gazing, short wave radios, long walks and picking out a one finger tune on the electric organ. His greatest love was his family and he enjoyed nothing more than family gatherings with his favorite being Christmas! The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Halyk for his exceptional care and attention. A memorial service will be held at St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, 12th Street and 1st Avenue East, on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Presbyterian Youth Church Camp, The Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
