We regret to announce the passing of a dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary E. MacDonald (nee Miles), who passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Harbourstone Home for Extended Care, Sydney.
Mary was born in Eden, Inverness County, on Dec. 21, 1912, to Katie (Cummings) and John Miles, and moved to Whycocomagh in her early childhood. She later moved to Sydney where she met and married her husband, Roland J. MacDonald.
Mary was the last surviving member of her family, and was predeceased by her husband, Roland; her four brothers, William, Albro, James, and John and her sister, Jessie.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (John 'Beaver') MacAskill, Sydney; her son, Miles (Donna), Guysborough; four grandchildren, Keri MacAskill, Lori (Gary Salsman), Aaron, and Joel MacDonald and three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Bradley and Kate Salsman, all whom she adored.
Mary loved playing cards, darts, participating in the choir, and being with family and friends. She was past member of Club 55, the Sydney Pensioners Club, and the Club 55 Rhythm Band. She was an avid participant in the music program at Harbourstone Home for Extended Care. Mary valued the friendship and care she received from the staff of Harbourstone during the past eight years. It was her home, and many of the staff were her extended family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Sydney Memorial Chapel. A funeral service being held in the Chapel on Friday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
