EDWARD WRIGHT GRAINGER
1956-2009
Edward affectionately known as Ted, beloved husband of Mariann (nee Gibson), passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at home, at the age of 53 years. He was born to Edward and Mabel (nee Dahl) Grainger at Hodgeville, SK, on February 21, 1956. Ted attended school in Hodgeville and loved school as a social event. In March of 1974, Ted went to Prince George to work with his brother Dale at Hertz. Then in 1975, he returned to Saskatchewan and worked at the Pioneer Co-op Agro, in Kyle. Ted and Mariann were married on November 6, 1976, at the Kyle United Church. In 1976, they moved to Waldeck and Ted worked as a bookkeeper for Hi-More Construction. On April 23, 1977 they were blessed with one son Steven. In the fall of 1977, they moved back to Hodgeville to help farm and at various times, Ted worked in car sales for Ford, Chrysler, GM and Sandbecks Auto. In the 90’s, Ted quit farming but remained on the acreage. He then worked in newspaper advertising sales for Farm Life and Wheel & Deal. In 2006 to 2007, Ted and Mariann worked together running a motel in Swift Current. Ted loved reading anything and everything, especially history. He enjoyed cars, bikes and even raced his 64 1/2 Mustang at SIR speedway at Saskatoon. He loved yard work, gardening, nature, dogs especially (Sam), good conversation, jokes, debating his knowledge, country music and music from the 70’s. Ted also enjoyed his alone time. He was a member of the Hodgeville Kinsmen and Elks clubs. Ted was predeceased by his son, Steven (2005); parents, Edward and Mabel Grainger; sister, Dawn Oelke; in-laws, Douglas and Augusta Gibson; sister-in-law, Karen Gibson. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Mariann; grandson, Tayler and Matteo; brother, Dale (Edith) Grainger of Davidson, SK; sister, Nancy (Jorg) Kelly of Prince George, BC; sister, Maureen Grainger of Red Deer, AB; brother-in law, Irvine (Janet) Gibson of Kyle, SK; sisters-in law, Donna (Bob) Quinney of Vanscoy, SK, Kathy (Gerry) Mercier of Kyle, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hodgeville Community Centre, with Rev. Linda Tomlinson officiating. Urn bearer was Rick Bender. Readers were Maureen Grainger and Katy Keller. Tribute written by Lyle Straub and Rick Bender and was read by Devon Drake. Special memories shared by Maureen Grainger. Organist was Debbie Waldenberger. Donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the Hodgeville Community Centre, Hodgeville, SK, SOH 2B0. Arrangements were entrusted to Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels Gravelbourg & Assiniboia.
