The family of Charles 'Briggon' McKinnon regret to announce his passing on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the home of his daughter, Laurie Blanchard, Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, Briggon was the son of the late Charles and Loretta (Williams). In his earlier years, he was employed at McKinnon Clothing Store and Glover's Dry Cleaners, both in Glace Bay. He also was employed with Devco for some years.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Laurie Blanchard, Glace Bay, her children, Rodney (Dawn), D.A. (great-grandson, Aiden Buffet), Melva McKinnon, Glace Bay, Charlaine (Mike) Chiasson, Reserve Mines, their children, Darren (Denise) (great-granddaughter, Julia), Shauna, Laura (great-grandson, Aiden Chiasson); sons, Francis, Glace Bay, Alan (Diane), Glace Bay, his children, Shane and Katie and many cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Brett McKinnon.
In honouring Briggon's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall, all are welcome.
