Black Point - Margaret Aileen (Dahr) Haggart. It is with sadness that the children of Aileen Haggart announce that she passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital on July 17th, one day before her 92nd birthday. Aileen was born in Port Dufferin, Nova Scotia to Gordon Dahr and Lena Ibbittson, and was raised in, Pugwash, Nova Scotia.
She was married to Garfield Haggart who predeceased her in 1984. She is survived by her children, Joan Forsythe, Ottawa; Sandy (Alma), Ottawa; Shirley, Black Point; Susan Robinson (Stanley), Little Harbour; Charles (Petty) Toronto; and Ross (Diana) Ottawa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Margo, Jamie, Anne, Blayne, Allison, Jason, Navin, Dylan and Meredith. Seven great-grandchildren: Kevin, Thomas, David, Aidan, Bronwyn, Chelsea and Daphanee. She is also survived by her sister Alberta Dunbar, Ottawa and brothers in-law: Allister (Wendy) Haggart, Halifax, Graeme (Nesta) Haggart, Moncton. She was predeceased by her daughter Dyane (Sebastian Ronin), her brothers Charles and Arthur, and her son-in-law Bill Forsythe.
Aileen was a graduate of the Aberdeen School of Nursing. Second only to her family, nursing engaged her energy, enthusiasm and commitment. When she and her family moved to Aylmer, Quebec in 1955 she nursed at the Ottawa Civic Hospital until her retirement in 1982.
She was a founding member of the Sakina Temple No. 145, Daughters of the Nile, in Ottawa, Ontario.
In 1983, Aileen and Garfield returned to Pictou County and built a home at Black Point. Aileen became active in a number of community groups: St. George's Anglican Church including Altar Guild, and ACW; the Aberdeen Hospital Alumnae Association; the Little Harbour Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
The family would like to thank Dr. Spencer Barclay for his kind and excellent care of our mother over many years.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday July 21st at the R H Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at St. George's Anglican Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Elliott Siteman officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Interment will take place in Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harboour at 11 am on Friday.
