CALLAHAN, John R. – Passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2009 at his residence, John R. Callahan, age 81 years. Predeceased by his infant brother John, brothers Bill and Bernard, sister Mary Mansfield, niece Theresa Turner and great-niece Laurie Hedderson. Leaving to mourn his former spouse Mary Callahan; daughter Deborah Callahan Dyer (Keith Dyer); son David Callahan and his beloved granddaughters: Kimberley and Tracey Dyer. He will also be fondly remembered by his special nieces: Mary Mansfield, Bernadette (Jim Locke), Geraldine Parrell and Cathy (Jerome Walsh) and his relative Bill Turner. Also leaving behind a number of his brothers and sisters-in-law and their families in NL and BC and many other friends and relatives. He was known for a questioning mind and was always seeking answers. He loved opera and reminiscing about his early days in Scouts, his time in Greenland and his love for the outdoors. An ordinary man who always thought of others. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with cremation to follow. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. from Corpus Christi Parish. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
