EARLE, The Rev’d Harry Oake– Aged 88. Passed away May 16, 2009 in Ladysmith, The Republic of South Africa. Born in Change Islands in 1921 he moved with his family to Fogo in 1928. Shortly after the commencement of World War II he was accepted for service in the Royal Navy and served until 1946. He became a prisoner of war in Italy following a commando raid on Tobruk in 1941 until his repatriation in 1942. Following his war services he trained and worked as an electrical engineer in England and Rhodesia and retired in The Republic of South Africa where he was ordained and served as an Anglican Priest. Predeceased by his wife Lily; his parents: Fred and Bertha (Oake) Earle of Fogo; brothers: Fred (Clara), The Rev’d. Canon George (Elna); sisters: Edna (Norman) Batten, Ethel (Reg) Coppin. He is survived by his daughter Pauline (Terry) McCarthy and her family in Durban, R.S.A.; brother Charlie (Alma), St. John’s, June (Rev. Isaac - deceased) Butler, Mahone Bay, N.S., Jean (Ken - deceased) Thompson, Listowel, Ont., Gertrude Broadbent (Philip), Sauble Beach, Ont., Mabel (Fred - deceased) Kirby, Topsail. Also several nieces and nephews. Funeral service on Friday, April 22, 2009 at Ladysmith, R.S.A.
