Helen Columba MacDougall, 89, Jamesville, Victoria County, died May 23, 2009, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Cain’s Mountain, Victoria County, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Catherine (MacKenzie) MacKinnon.
She was a member and sacristan of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Mission Church, MacKinnon’s Harbour and St. Columba Parish Church, Iona. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family.
She is survived by sons, Leo (Linda), Halifax, D.F. (Bernadette), Ottawa Brook, and Dan E., Halifax; daughters, Mary Jane (Greg MacMillan), Big Pond, Angela, Antigonish, and Jo-Ann, Toronto; grandchildren, Erin, Ian, Kaela, Emilee and Daniel MacDougall, Theresa, Helen, Geraldine, Natalie and Jean Marie MacMillan and step-grandsons, Leam and Andrew MacDonald.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, son, André, grandson, Scott Alexander MacDougall, brothers, Hector, Murdock, Neil, Jimmie, Leo, Johnnie, Roddie, Philip, Walter Joseph, Dan Joseph, Walter Francis, Ambrose, Columbus, and Joseph, sisters, Anne Smith, Catherine Margaret, Catherine Margaret Slover, Sally MacDonald and Cecelia Small.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in St. Columba Parish Hall, Iona, with recitation of the Rosary at 4 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Columba Church with Rev. Paul Abbass presiding. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, MacKinnon’s Harbour.
In memoriam, donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund.
