It is with sadness we announce the passing of Wilfred Sampson, 82, of Union Highway, River Ryan, on May 24, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Lingan, he was a son of the late Charles and Sarah (Burkey) Sampson.
Wilfred was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church, River Ryan. He owned and operated Sampson Auto Parts in River Ryan for 50 years. Wilfred was an easy going, quiet man with a dry sense of humour. He enjoyed working in his business and meeting people until he was 80 years old. Wilfred will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Adeline; daughter, Charlotte (Pierre) LeBlanc, Ben Eoin; son, Wilfred Jr. (Carol); his only granddaughter, Jenna, River Ryan, and his beloved dog, ‘Lady.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Wilfred was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Jerry and Harvey.
Visitation will be held Monday (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Wilfred will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26 in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Agnes Center, Convent Street, New Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or the VON.
