It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Ira Howard of Florence, on May 23, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Florence, Gordon was the son of the late Thomas and Annie Howard.
He was as member of Wilson United Church, Florence. Gordon was a member of Branch 083 Royal Canadian Legion, Florence. In earlier years he was an avid sportsfan enjoying darts, pool and golf. For the past several months he enjoyed his time at the Harbour View Seniors Day Program. He had a caring manner and a great love for the outdoors.
He is survived by his sister, Helen (Richard) Chambers, New Brunswick; brother, Richard (Nancy) Howard, Ontario. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Anne Howard, Renelda Howard; brother-in-law, Leonard Marsh; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Sidney and Tom, sisters, Jane Marsh, Ruth Howard, Eileen Haley, Jean White, Alice Howie, and two sisters, in infancy.
He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
Special thank you to a great friend Cathy, and to his nephew, Fred and his wife Sharon for the special care and love they gave Uncle Gordon.
Visitation for Gordon Howard will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Tuesday, May 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Norma Mills officiating.
Donations in Gordon’s memory may be made to Cape Breton Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or Harbour View Hospital Seniors Day Program.
